Why Are You Here? God’s Purpose For Every Person

Why are you here? Do you know the purpose for your life? Can you name the gift God put in you, before you were born? It’s what we are all searching for. It’s what drives our innate curiosity. The rate of entrepreneurship in this country has grown tremendously as people try to make changes to find more meaning in their life. Your divine gift is the source of your happiness. If you discover it, and work at it, it will send the meaning meter in your life through the roof. Why? It’s how you were created. It’s what God put in you to shine his light on the world. Being a reflector of God’s love, grace, mercy and power is the real reason we’re all here.

Back when I counseled people full time, to get a sense of the core of the person I was talking to, I would ask three questions. These three questions will lead you to discover your divine purpose and fill your life with meaning. To answer these questions, forget your roles, forget what you like to do and go deeper. Look for patterns in your life from as far back as you can remember up to now.

1) Who You Are?

I would usually ask the question during my weekly diversity training, then dig deeper during one-on-one counseling sessions. It gave the attendees time to think about what I had asked. However, the first set of answers I would receive would be as superficial as if I’d ask them to answer in the training session. I’d get answers like father, niece, nurse, aunt. Nothing having to do with the core of the individual.

Try it. Finish this statement. I am ________. You cannot add another word like ‘a’ or ‘the’. Still need help? Say these aloud – I am power. I am confident. I am light. That’s right, light. You are the light that is to shine goodness all over the world. What else are you?

2) Whose You Are?

This would always end up being the fun question. Answering this question the attendees were supposed to tell me where they got their energy, what was their power source? I got answers like money, job, kids, etc. But when I asked could they remember being happy before money, job, kids, etc. Everyone said yes. With those things removed, now what is your source of energy? Where do your ideas come from? Where do those steady promptings come from? When you’re tired and empty, what do you do?

3) The Gift

Everyone has one. It is the one true meaning for your being on earth. You have a duty to find it and fulfill it. Steve Harvey describes it as the one thing you do best with the least amount of effort. (Click the link to see him explain it in a YouTube video.) Many times, we easily over look our gift because it doesn’t require any extra energy or extended learning for us to be able to do it. In addition, culture has taught us that anything worth having requires pain staking #WERK. Not true when it comes to our divine gift. Truth is, we perform it so easily, it’s hard to see ourselves earning a living from it. That, is where the difficult part comes in, it’s where the work comes in, packaging and selling it to earn a living. But it’s possible!

Question: Do you know what your gift is? If so, are you earning a living doing it? Share your answer on Facebook or Twitter
